News on new IEP state mandated format

Good news and bad. The good news is that we may have until 2011 to have the state mandated IEP format in place in our districts. The bad: we have to wait for a new draft IEP and another go-round of public comment before we know what it will look like. Though impatient for its adoption, better it be a good one. So, we do what we already know how to do and make changes where needed within the current format. Here's the official word:
"In response to public comment, the Department will propose a revision to regulations that would further extend the initial effective date that school districts must use individualized education program (IEP), meeting and prior written notice forms as prescribed by the Commissioner to commence with the 2011-12 school year. These proposed regulations will be presented to the Board of Regents at the January 2009 meeting.

We thank all who provided comment on the proposed forms. VESID is continuing to review this public comment and will be making revisions to the forms, as appropriate, to address the concerns and recommendations received. The delay in implementation, if approved, will provide additional time to analyze public comment and for school districts to gradually transition to the new forms. It will also provide more opportunity for VESID to make training available to school districts on the IEP form and required content. There will be a public comment period on the revised implementation date prior to the finalization of the regulation."
